Functional Overview

There are four main functional groupings. These may or may not equate to "views" in the UI.

Terminology:

  • Project: A set of tools and object collections customized to support a specific project or area of inquiry.
  • Tool: A location tool used for finding objects of interest (Google, Library Catalogs, Databases, Journals).
  • Object: An item (Web site, journal article, image, metadata record) suitable for use in the project or area of inquiry.
  • Collection: A set of objects saved within a "Project".
  • Collection:

    Home/Project-level management

    • Create/edit groups for use with permissions
    • View lists of personal and shared "Projects"
    • Set/edit "project" permissions
    • Create, copy or delete projects
    • Search default resource list and save to folders (optionally annotate on save)

    Tool management

    • Create tool list
    • Edit existing list (add/delete)
    • Locate new tool
    • Save tool to the list (this one only, or to others as well)

    Search

    • Create and send queries to selected tools
    • View lists of results
    • Save resulting objects to one or multiple collections

    Object

    • Import/export external objects or lists of objects
    • View/edit collections of objects
    • Annotate objects
    • Choose from various views appropriate for those collections (map, timeline, list, detail)
    • Export object metadata for selected items in desired formats
