The HistoryVis website is a prototype interface for creating and viewing datasets of archaeological sites which can be displayed on a combination map/timeline, or "timemap." This allows users to easily see where a site is located, when it occurred, and how it relates to other historical sites in both time and space. The project was developed by Master's students Nick Rabinowitz, Hazel Onsrud, and Jon Breitbart in collaboration with Dr. Adam Rabinowitz, Assistant Director of the Institute of Classical Archaeology and Lecturer in the Classics Department at the University of Texas, Austin.

The site runs on the Open Source content management system Drupal, using the TimeMap javascript library for presentation. TimeMap ties together two popular public APIs, Google Maps and SIMILE Timeline. The project team created several Drupal modules, including a module integrating TimeMap with Drupal, soon to be released as Open Source on Drupal.org.
