the iars-bears project
Our final project will be used by the department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports (IARS) which provides athletic opportunities and support services for almost 1,000 student-athletes competing in intercollegiate sports. The project will be one of the many initiatives sought by the department to improve services and enhance the average student-athlete’s experience.
The IARS department coordinates with several other departments such as Compliance, Housing, Admissions, Financial Aid, etc., to provide a comprehensive set of services to student-athletes. The Compliance department is responsible for ensuring that student-athletes comply with various NCAA rules and regulations. One very compelling department need is to eliminate the tedious and error-prone processing of paper-based forms filled out by student athletes. These forms are filled out by student-athletes and submitted to an administrator who has to key in all the data into an application. Currently, there is no efficient way for interested parties such as student-athletes, coaches, and administrators to view and manipulate this data.
The Compliance department would like an application that will replace the paper-based forms with electronic versions that student-athletes can fill over the web. The data will be stored in a database and accessible to interested parties via the web with varying security-level permissions. The application will also need to communicate with existing Compliance applications via either a real-time or batch interface.
