Technical Architecture
Per our client's request, the technology used for the CalStARS application is open source in order to reduce costs, quickly and easily obtain access, allow for scalability, and minimize the learning curve upon transition. The application runs on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 platform, uses a MySQL (version 3.23.58) database, a Tomcat (version 4.1.29) web server, and Java (version 1.4.2_03). It can be accessed via an Internet Explorer browser with versions 5 and up or a Netscape browser with versions 6.1 and up. Browsers must be able to support Cascading Style Sheets and allow sessions.
