A New Look at Big Brother

Clinic Director Deirdre Mulligan commented on increased video surveillance and privacy in a BusinessWeek article entitled “A New Look at Big Brother.” The article discusses how there has been in an increase in use of video surveillance but yet there are no clear guidelines on how this technology should be used.

“Whether deployed by companies, police departments, or intelligence agencies, “It’s going to be a huge issue,” says Deidre Mulligan, a law professor at the University of California at Berkeley. “We wouldn’t let a policeman follow you around all day, without a real cause.” She notes that some towns have passed laws requiring stores to give police departments access to their surveillance systems.”
