2020 USA Election: Vote Percentages by State |
This dashboard analyzes COVID-19 trends in the U.S.:
• Party Affiliation by State
• Daily cases, deaths, and vaccination rates per 100K by state against national average rates.
• Total cumulative cases, deaths, and vaccination rates per 100K by state against national cumulative rates.
• Timeline with important national events.
By default, the dashboard displays national rates. Click on any state on the US map to display state level details. You can also click on any event from the timeline on the bottom right to plot a reference line across the three charts above; this will help to visualize trends before and after.
Initial research suggested that the pandemic has become political; left-leaning or Democratic states tended to have higher vaccination rates compared to right-leaning or Republican states. The left-hand size bar chart provides insight into this hypothesis.
Play the animation to compare the performances of states for various vaccination measure over time, compared to the national rate. If a particular state is not in the top/bottom 10, select the state from the left menu to view it. Hover over a particular state to look at its vaccination rates over time or select a month from the drop-down menu.
We also found that within each state, the 65+ age group consistently led other age groups in vaccination rate. The donut chart on the right provides a monthly breakdown of vaccination rates by state and by age breakdown. If no state is selected, it will display the national rates. Similar to the other chart, hovering over an age group will allow to see vaccination rates over different months.
Both charts are synchronized, so playing the animation, selecting a vaccination measure, or selecting a specific state will affect the displays of both charts.
Initial research suggests that COVID-19 vaccines are doing a great job keeping people out of hospitals, while unvaccinated people 16+ are contracting the virus, being hospitalized, and dying at higher rates than the vaccinated. This dashboard displays an in-depth view of California's COVID-19 trends by week and by vaccination status for people 16+ from February 2021 to October 2021.
Use the buttons to toggle both charts between different measures: cases, deaths, and hospitalizations. The “% Population 16+ Fully Vaccinated: By Week” chart is used to reference the vaccination rates when looking at the other measures. The area chart at the bottom allows to visualize the difference in rates for each of these measures among fully vaccinated and vaccinated people 16+. Hover over any chart to view all statistics.

This dashboard shows a comparison of any two states of their monthly cases, deaths, and vaccinations per 100,000 people. Selecting a state updates the states overview with state party affiliation (determined by voting result in the 2020 election) and the current vaccine mandate and incentive status.
Hover on charts to view these statistics. Both charts are synchronized, so click on a bar or the x-axis to save and highlight a comparison point on both charts. Use the orange and purple colors to identify the chosen states A and B.
