Location - Mortality Rate

The graph below explores the mortality rate of all cancer types in each state for each year from 1999 to 2019 (a 20 year period). The map graph allows for trends across the nation and states to be seen for each year. The bar graph race below shows the top 15 states with the highest mortality rates shift as the animation goes from year to year to see how individual top states mortality rates are changing relative to other states.

Overall we see the mortality rates declining throughout America and notice that the East Coast tends to have a slight higher rates of cancer mortality per year.

The mortality rate can be interpreted as follows using the example of California in 1999: For every 100,000 people in California, around 182 people died due to a form of cancer in 1999.
